As the legal guardian, you have complete visibility into your child's savings and can manage transfers on their behalf.
Accessing your child's profile
You can access your child's profile from your home screen or accounts page.
Open the Fynbos app
Scroll down to find your child's profile card on the home screen
Tap on their profile to view their accounts
Your child's profile shows their name and total balance across all their accounts. Tapping their profile takes you to their dedicated portfolio view.
Understanding the child portfolio view
When you open your child's profile, you'll see their complete portfolio overview.
The portfolio view shows:
Total balance: The combined value of all their accounts
Account breakdown: A visual bar showing how their savings are distributed
Individual accounts: Each account with its current balance
You can tap the coloured segments in the portfolio bar or the account pills below it to filter which accounts are included in the total. This helps you see how much is saved in specific accounts.
Transferring money to your child's account
You can transfer money from your Cash account to your child's accounts at any time.
Navigate to your child's profile
Tap Transfer in
Enter the transfer amount using the keypad
Tap Review transfer
Review the transfer details showing from your Cash account to your child's name
Tap Transfer to confirm
Your transfer will arrive instantly. Your child's balance updates immediately and the funds are available in their account right away.
How child account transfers work
Transfers to your child's account follow the same pattern as other Fynbos transfers:
Your Cash → Child's Account
Key points to understand:
Transfers come from your Cash account: Money must be in your Cash account before transferring to your child
Instant transfers: Transfers to child accounts arrive immediately
Your money, their account: The funds become part of your child's savings once transferred
Important: Once transferred, the money belongs to your child's savings. You can still manage their accounts as their guardian, but the funds are held in their name.
Switching to your child's profile
If you need to manage your child's account directly, you can switch to their profile view.
Navigate to your child's profile
Tap Switch profile
Switching profiles lets you view the app as if signed in as your child. This is useful for:
Viewing their transactions in detail
Managing their account settings
Checking their account activity
To return to your own profile, use the profile switcher in the app.
What your child can see
Your child's account is designed for long-term savings managed by you:
Guardian-managed: Only you can make transfers and manage the account
View access: Depending on their age and your preferences, children may have view-only access to see their savings grow
No independent transactions: Children cannot withdraw or transfer money without guardian approval
This ensures their savings stay protected while giving them visibility into the money you're setting aside for their future.
