Inviting your partner
Before you invite
Inviting a partner means taking on their subscription, so a few things need to be true before you start.
You need an active Protea subscription: You'll be covering your partner's Protea seat
You need their mobile number: The invite is sent on WhatsApp
One partner at a time: A family has room for two adults, so you can have one partner
Your partner does not need a Fynbos account yet. If they're new, the invite includes a sign-up link.
Sending an invite
You can invite your partner from the family setup flow or straight from your members list.
Navigate to Settings, then Family
Tap Invite your partner (or Set up your family, then My partner)
Enter your partner's Mobile number, selecting their country if they're not in South Africa
Tap Send invite
Your partner appears in the members list as Invite pending while you wait. The invite expires after 7 days if it isn't accepted.
Cancelling an invite
You can withdraw an invite at any time before it's accepted.
Navigate to Settings, then Family
Tap the Invite pending row
Tap Cancel invite
The row disappears from your members list and you can invite someone again.
Accepting an invite
When someone invites you, Fynbos sends you a WhatsApp message. Opening it brings you to the invitation screen.
Open the invite from WhatsApp, or tap the Family entry in Settings
Review who invited you and what they'll cover
Tap Accept invite, or Decline if you'd rather not join
If you're invited while you're still signing up, the invitation appears as a step in the sign-up flow before you choose a subscription.
Note: You can only be in one family. If you're already in a family with someone else, leave that one before accepting a new invite.
What happens to your subscription
Accepting an invite moves your Protea access onto the inviter's subscription.
If you have no subscription: You're added to their subscription and get Protea access straight away.
If you're paying for your own Protea subscription: Your subscription is cancelled and you're refunded for the unused portion, then you're covered by the family subscription instead.
If someone else already sponsors you (an employer, for example): You stay on that sponsorship for now, and the family subscription takes over when it ends.
Either way, the person who invited you sees the whole family on their Subscription page, with each member's cost and any age discount applied. See Your subscription for how family pricing is calculated.
Bringing your children with you
If you already have child profiles when you accept an invite, they come with you into the new family. They stay yours — your new partner sees nothing about them until you share each child deliberately.
Turning on sharing is covered in Family sharing.
