How your money gets invested
When you transfer money to an investment account, Fynbos automatically creates buy orders based on your investment strategy.
Here's what happens behind the scenes:
You transfer money from your Cash account to your investment account
Fynbos creates buy orders for each fund in your strategy, split according to your percentages
Your money is sent to the investment provider for settlement
Once settled, your holdings appear in your account
What this means for you: You don't need to manually buy each fund. Just transfer money and your strategy does the work.
Understanding settlement
Settlement is the process of turning your cash into fund holdings. Different fund types settle at different speeds:
Fund type | Settlement time | How it works |
|---|---|---|
Unit trusts | 2-3 business days | Priced daily. Your buy executes at the next available price. |
ETFs | 2-3 business days | Traded on an exchange. Your buy executes during trading hours. |
During settlement, your transfer appears as pending in your transaction history. Once complete, you'll see your new holdings reflected in your balance.
Note: Fund prices change daily. The price you receive depends on when your buy order is processed, not when you initiate the transfer.
Your investment strategy
Your investment strategy determines how money is allocated across funds whenever you transfer into an account.
For example, if your strategy is:
60% Satrix MSCI World ETF
40% Allan Gray Balanced Fund
Every transfer will automatically be split 60/40 between these two funds.
Setting up your strategy
Open your investment account
Tap the menu icon on the Investment strategy card
Select Edit strategy
Choose your funds from the available options
Set the percentage allocation for each fund
Review and confirm your strategy
Your strategy applies to all future transfers. Existing holdings are not automatically rebalanced.
Viewing your holdings
Your investment account shows your current investments at a glance.
For each holding, you can see:
Current value: What your holding is worth today
Gain or loss: How much you've made or lost since buying
Allocation percentage: How much of your portfolio this holding represents
Target percentage: What your strategy aims for
Tap any holding to see detailed performance charts and transaction history for that specific fund.
Selling your investments
When you need to access your money, you sell your holdings to transfer cash back out.
Open your investment account
Tap Transfer out
Enter the amount you want to sell from each holding
Review and confirm the sale
After your sell order settles (2-3 business days), the proceeds transfer to your Cash account. From there, you can withdraw to your bank account.
Important: You can only withdraw from your Cash account. Selling investments is a separate step from withdrawing money.
