What is the distribution preview?

The distribution preview shows you how your next deposit will be automatically distributed across your accounts based on your current automation rules.

  • Real-time calculation: Preview updates instantly as you add, edit, or reorder rules

  • Uses your actual amounts: Shows calculations based on your debit order amount or a default of R5,000

  • Accounts for existing balances: Target rules factor in your current account balances to calculate accurate allocations

The preview helps you verify your automation setup before depositing, so you can make adjustments if needed.

Viewing the preview

The distribution preview appears automatically on the Deposit rules page alongside your automation rules.

  1. Navigate to Automation from your home screen or settings

  2. View the Preview card on the right side of the screen (or below your rules on mobile)

The preview card displays a summary of how your money will be distributed when you deposit.

Understanding the preview display

The preview shows two key pieces of information: a description of the deposit amount and a breakdown of the resulting transactions.

Preview description

At the top of the preview card, you will see a description that varies based on whether you have an active debit order:

With an active debit order: "Your next debit order of R2,500 will create the following automatic transactions:"

Without a debit order: "If you deposit R5,000, the following automatic transactions will be created:"

Transaction breakdown

Below the description, you will see each automatic transfer that will occur:

  • Each line shows the destination account and amount

  • Transactions are listed in the order they will execute

  • The total of all transactions always equals your deposit amount

How the preview calculates distributions

The preview processes your rules from top to bottom, just like the actual automation will when you deposit.

Target rules

For target rules, the preview calculates the difference between your account's current balance (including any pending transactions) and the target amount. It allocates only what is needed to reach the target.

Example: If your Emergency Savings target is R15,000 and your current balance is R12,000, the preview shows R3,000 going to Emergency Savings.

Percentage rules

Percentage rules allocate a portion of whatever remains after higher-priority rules have taken their share.

Example: A 50% rule positioned after a target rule that takes R3,000 from a R5,000 deposit will show R1,000 going to that account (50% of the remaining R2,000).

Amount rules

Amount rules allocate a fixed rand amount, up to whatever remains available.

Example: An R500 amount rule will show R500 if sufficient funds remain, or less if previous rules have already allocated most of the deposit.

Remainder allocation

Any funds not allocated by your rules are automatically sent to Emergency Savings. This ensures your entire deposit is always accounted for.

When the preview updates

The preview recalculates automatically when you:

  • Add a new automation rule

  • Delete an existing rule

  • Reorder rules by dragging them

  • Change your debit order amount (changes reflect after page refresh)

You do not need to manually refresh the preview. It always reflects your current rule configuration.
