Creating an investment account
Last updated: 19 Jan 2026
What is an Investment Account?
An Investment Account is a flexible account for investing in a range of funds with a custom strategy. Unlike your Tax-Free Savings Account, there are no contribution limits or restrictions on withdrawals.
Flexible investing: No annual contribution limits or withdrawal penalties
Custom strategies: Choose your own funds and allocation percentages
Multiple accounts: Create as many Investment accounts as you need for different goals
Use an Investment Account when you want to invest beyond your TFSA limits, save for medium-term goals, or build a portfolio tailored to specific objectives.
Before you start
To create an Investment Account, you need:
A verified Fynbos account (KYC complete)
A name for your new account
You can create an Investment Account at any time from your home screen. There's no minimum balance required to open the account.
Creating your account
Follow these steps to create a new Investment Account.
Tap Add account on your home screen
Select Investment account from the list of account types
Enter a name for your Investment Account in the Investment account name field
Tap the colour circle to choose a colour for your account
Use the shuffle button to change your account's icon
Review your account preview at the bottom of the screen
Tap Continue to create your account
Your new Investment Account is created immediately. You'll be taken to the account view where you can set up your investment strategy and start transferring money.
Naming your account
Choose a name that reflects what you're saving for. This helps you stay organised, especially if you create multiple Investment accounts.
Examples of useful names:
House deposit
Sabbatical fund
Share portfolio
Long-term growth
Your account name appears on your home screen and in your transaction history, so pick something meaningful to you.
Choosing a colour
Each Investment Account can have its own colour. This makes it easy to identify different accounts at a glance on your home screen and in charts.
Available colours include rose, orange, yellow, green, sky, blue, indigo, and purple. Tap the colour circle next to the name field to open the colour picker.
Creating multiple accounts
You can create as many Investment accounts as you need. Each account has its own:
Name and colour
Investment strategy
Holdings and balance
Transaction history
This lets you separate different investment goals. For example, you might have one account focused on local funds and another for global exposure, or separate accounts for different time horizons.
To create another Investment Account, simply repeat the steps above from your home screen.
What happens next
After creating your Investment Account, you'll want to:
Set your investment strategy — Choose which funds to invest in and how to split your money between them
Transfer money — Move funds from your Cash account to start investing
Set up automation — Optionally create rules to automatically allocate incoming deposits
Your Investment Account is ready to use as soon as it's created. Any money you transfer in will be invested according to your chosen strategy.
