# Viewing your holdings ## What are holdings? Holdings are the investments you currently own in your account. Each holding represents shares in a specific fund that you've purchased through your contributions. - **Current value**: See what your investments are worth today based on the latest unit prices - **Performance tracking**: Monitor how your investments have grown or declined over time - **Strategy alignment**: Compare your actual allocation to your target strategy Your holdings appear in Tax-Free Savings accounts and Investment accounts. ## Viewing your holdings list Your investment account shows all your current holdings in the **Current investments** section. 1. Tap on your investment account from the home screen 2. Scroll down to the **Current investments** section 3. Review each holding showing the fund name, current value, and performance Each holding displays: - **Fund name**: The name of the fund you own (e.g., "Allan Gray Equity Fund") - **Provider logo**: The asset manager's icon for quick recognition - **Current value**: The total value of your holding at today's prices - **Gain/loss indicator**: An up or down arrow showing if you're in profit or loss, with the amount - **Allocation percentages**: Your current allocation compared to your target strategy (e.g., "45% -> 50%") ## Viewing individual fund details Tap on any holding to see detailed performance and information for that specific fund. 1. Navigate to your investment account 2. Tap on a fund in the **Current investments** section 3. View the detailed fund performance screen The fund detail screen shows: | Data | Description | | --- | --- | | **Current value** | Your holding's value at today's prices | | **Number of shares** | How many units of the fund you own | | **Purchase cost** | The total amount you've invested in this fund | | **Gain** | The difference between current value and purchase cost | | **Performance chart** | Visual graph of your holding's value over time | ## Understanding the performance chart The performance chart shows how your investment value has changed over time. You can interact with the chart to explore your performance history. **Time period options**: - **3M**: Last 3 months - **6M**: Last 6 months - **1Y**: Last year - **Tax year**: Performance within specific tax years (e.g., 2025 tax year) - **ALL**: Since your first transaction 1. Tap any time period pill to change the view 2. Touch and drag across the chart to see values at specific dates 3. Release to return to the current value The chart displays your current balance as a solid line. Use this to see how market movements have affected your investment over different time periods. ## Understanding gains and losses Your gain or loss represents the difference between what you paid for your investments and what they're worth today. **Gain** = Current value - Purchase cost - **Positive gain**: Your investments have grown in value (shown in green with an up arrow) - **Negative gain**: Your investments have declined in value (shown with a down arrow) **What this means for you**: - Gains are unrealised until you sell your holdings - Market values fluctuate daily based on fund performance - Long-term investing typically smooths out short-term volatility > **Important**: Gains shown are unrealised. You only lock in a profit or loss when you sell your holdings. Daily fluctuations are normal and expected with investment accounts. ## Viewing account performance Your account shows overall performance across all holdings combined. At the top of your account screen, you'll see: - **Total balance**: The combined value of all your holdings - **Contribution summary**: How much you've contributed over the selected period - **Total gain**: Your overall profit or loss across all holdings Toggle between **Balance** and **Contribution** views to see: - **Balance**: The actual market value of your investments over time - **Contribution**: The total amount you've invested over time The gap between these lines represents your investment returns. ## Checking allocation vs strategy Each holding shows how your actual allocation compares to your target strategy. The percentage display (e.g., "45% -> 50%") means: - **First number (45%)**: Your current allocation in this fund - **Arrow**: Direction towards your target - **Second number (50%)**: Your target allocation from your strategy When you make new contributions, Fynbos invests according to your strategy to help bring your actual allocation closer to your target over time.
