# Connect Fynbos to your AI

Ask Claude or ChatGPT about your Fynbos accounts in plain language. Check your balances, see how your investments are doing, or look up funds, without opening the Fynbos web app.

Fynbos is working on being listed in the Claude and ChatGPT app directories, so you'll be able to add it in a few taps. Until then, you can connect it with a link. Follow the steps for your AI app below.

## What you can ask

Once connected, your AI can answer questions about:

- balances and how much you can withdraw
- holdings and performance
- transactions and fees recorded on them
- the funds you can invest in, with their costs
- your remaining TFSA contribution room for this tax year
- projections of what an account could be worth, including “what if” scenarios

This covers your own accounts and any family accounts you manage, such as your children's accounts or accounts a partner shares with you.

### Give it a try

> **What's in my Fynbos TFSA and how has it performed this year?**

> **What could my TFSA be worth in 10 years if I add R 1 000 a month?**

## Before you start

Connecting your AI is optional. It’s an extra for people who already use AI tools or want to try them. You get the full Fynbos experience in the web app either way.

- You need an active Fynbos account.
- Every app uses the same server URL: `https://mcp.fynbos.money/`
- You never give your Fynbos password or an API key to the AI app. You sign in on a Fynbos page and approve the connection there.
- The connection is read-only. Your AI can view your information but can't move money or change your settings.

## Connect Claude (web and desktop app)

1. In Claude, go to **Settings → Connectors**.
2. Click **Add custom connector**.
3. Enter the name `Fynbos` and the URL `https://mcp.fynbos.money/`, then click **Add**.
4. Click **Connect** next to Fynbos. A Fynbos sign-in page opens.
5. Log in to Fynbos and click **Approve** on the **Connect to Fynbos** screen.
6. Start a new chat, open the tools menu, and check that Fynbos is switched on. Then ask a question.

**Using Claude on your phone?** You can't add a connector in the Claude mobile app. Add it once on the web or desktop app, and it will automatically appear on your phone.

**Please note:** Free Claude plans can only add a limited number of custom connectors. On a Team or Enterprise plan, your organisation's owner may need to add Fynbos first.

## Connect ChatGPT (web and desktop app)

1. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins and click **Add**, then **Add custom MCP server**.
2. Enter the name `Fynbos` and the MCP server URL `https://mcp.fynbos.money/`. Set authentication to **OAuth**.
3. Tick **I understand and want to continue**, then click **Create as a plugin**. A Fynbos sign-in page opens.
4. Log in to Fynbos and click **Approve** on the **Connect to Fynbos** screen.
5. Start a new chat, select Fynbos from the **+** or **Tools** menu, and ask a question.

**Please note:** Custom apps need a paid ChatGPT plan and only work on the ChatGPT website and desktop app, not the mobile app. On a Business or Enterprise workspace, your admin may need to allow custom apps first. OpenAI sometimes renames these menus, so the labels in your app may look slightly different.

## For technical users

### Claude Code

Run this in your terminal:

`claude mcp add --transport http fynbos https://mcp.fynbos.money/`

Then, inside Claude Code, run `/mcp` and select **fynbos → Authenticate**. Log in to Fynbos in the browser window that opens and click **Approve**.

### OpenAI Codex CLI

Run these in your terminal:

`codex mcp add fynbos --url https://mcp.fynbos.money/`

`codex mcp login fynbos`

Log in to Fynbos in the browser window that opens and click **Approve**.

## Disconnect Fynbos from your AI

You can disconnect your AI from Fynbos at any time.

1. In the Fynbos web app, go to **Settings → Linked apps**.
2. Under **AI assistants**, find the app you want to remove. Each one shows when it was connected and when it was last active.
3. Click **Disconnect**, then click **Disconnect** again to confirm.

Your AI loses access to your Fynbos accounts straight away. To use it again, you’ll need to reconnect and approve it.

**Please note:** Removing the Fynbos connector in your AI app’s settings doesn’t end its access on the Fynbos side. Use **Linked apps** to make sure it’s fully disconnected. If you manage family accounts, switch back to your own profile first to see Linked apps.

## Troubleshooting

### You get a "couldn't connect" or sign-in error straight away

Check that the URL is exactly `https://mcp.fynbos.money/`.

### The sign-in page keeps looping or shows an error

You need an active Fynbos account to connect. Suspended or closed accounts can't sign in.

### Your AI says it can't do something

The connection is read-only by design. Your AI can't move money, make deposits or withdrawals, or change your settings. Use the Fynbos app for those.

### Projections look different from what you expected

Projections are illustrations based on set assumptions, not forecasts. They don’t include Fynbos fees or tax, so actual results can differ.

### You can’t find your subscription fees

Your AI can see fees recorded on your transactions and the costs of each fund. Your full subscription billing history is in the Fynbos app.

## Things to keep in mind

- **Answers come from your AI, not from Fynbos.** Fynbos only provides the secure connection to your account information. Your AI’s answers, and how it handles your information, are covered by your agreement with Anthropic (for Claude) or OpenAI (for ChatGPT).
- **AI can get things wrong.** Always check important figures in the Fynbos app.
- **This isn’t financial advice.** Fynbos doesn’t advise on this connector, and your AI’s answers aren’t advice from Fynbos. Any decisions you make are your own.
- **You use the connector at your own risk.** Fynbos isn’t responsible for errors in AI-generated answers or for decisions you make based on them.

Past performance is not a guide to future performance. Projections are illustrations based on set assumptions. They aren’t forecasts or guarantees, and they don’t include Fynbos fees or tax.

## Frequesntly asked questions

### Which AI apps work with Fynbos?

Right now, you can connect Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and OpenAI Codex CLI. Other apps, such as Cursor and VS Code, aren't supported yet and will fail at the sign-in step.

### Can my AI move money or change my settings?

No. The connection is read-only. Your AI can view your information, but it can't move money, make deposits or withdrawals, or change your settings. Use the Fynbos app for those.

### Do I need to give my AI my Fynbos password?

No. You never give your Fynbos password or an API key to your AI app. You sign in on a Fynbos page and approve the connection there.

### Can I use the Fynbos connector on my phone?

In Claude, yes. Add the connector once on the Claude web or desktop app, and it will appear on your phone automatically. ChatGPT custom apps only work on the ChatGPT website and desktop app, not the mobile app.

### Is my AI giving me financial advice?

No. Answers come from your AI, not from Fynbos, and they aren't advice from Fynbos. AI can get things wrong, so always check important figures in the Fynbos app.
