# Switching between profiles

## What are managed profiles?

Managed profiles are accounts you oversee on behalf of someone else, such as a child. When you set up a child's account in Fynbos, their profile appears alongside your accounts, allowing you to manage their savings from your own app.

- **Separate finances**: Each profile has its own accounts, balances, and transactions
- **Easy access**: Switch between profiles without logging out
- **Full control**: View balances, transfer money in, and manage settings for each profile

Managed profiles appear on your home screen and in the sidebar navigation, making it easy to monitor everyone's savings in one place.

## Accessing the profile switcher

On desktop, the profile switcher appears in the sidebar navigation at the top. On mobile, you can access it through the navigation menu.

### Desktop (sidebar)

1. Look at the top of the sidebar navigation
2. Tap your name to open the profile switcher dropdown
3. Select the profile you want to switch to

### Mobile

1. Navigate to *Settings*
2. Tap **Switch profile** to expand the profile list
3. Tap the profile you want to manage

Your currently active profile is indicated with a checkmark in the list.

## Switching to a child's profile

When you switch to a managed profile like your child's account, the app shows their accounts and balances instead of yours.

1. Open the profile switcher dropdown
2. Select the child's name from the list
3. The app reloads with their profile active

A coloured banner appears at the top of the screen confirming you're managing someone else's account. The banner displays the message "You're managing [Name]'s account. Click to stop managing."

## What you can do while managing a profile

When managing a child's profile, you have access to their accounts and can perform most actions on their behalf.

**Available actions**:

- View all account balances and transactions
- Transfer money into their accounts
- View their portfolio breakdown
- Access their account details

**Not available while managing**:

- Creating new accounts (return to your profile first)
- Certain settings changes

The profile view shows the child's accounts, their portfolio card with balance breakdown, and action buttons for transferring money in or switching back to your profile.

## Returning to your own profile

You can return to your own profile at any time using either the profile switcher or the coloured banner.

### Using the banner

1. Tap anywhere on the coloured banner at the top of the screen
2. You're immediately returned to your own profile

### Using the profile switcher

1. Open the profile switcher dropdown
2. Select your own name from the list
3. The app reloads with your profile active

### Using the Switch profile button

1. From the managed profile view, tap **Switch profile**
2. You're returned to your own profile

## Profiles in the navigation

Managed profiles appear in multiple places throughout the app:

| Location | What you see |
| --- | --- |
| **Home screen** | Profile cards showing each child's name and total balance |
| **Sidebar (desktop)** | Profile names with avatars in the navigation list |
| **Profile switcher** | Dropdown with all profiles you can access |

Tapping a profile card on the home screen takes you directly to that profile's overview page, where you can view their accounts or switch to manage their profile.

## Frequesntly asked questions

### Can my child access their own account?

Currently, managed profiles like children's accounts are controlled entirely by the parent or guardian. Children cannot sign in separately to view or manage their accounts.

### What's the difference between viewing a profile and managing it?

Viewing a profile shows you the child's accounts from your home screen. Managing a profile (switching to it) lets you take actions like transferring money as if you were signed in as that person.

### Can I manage multiple children's accounts?

Yes, you can set up and manage accounts for multiple children. Each child appears as a separate profile you can switch between.

### Will my child see my account balances?

No. Each profile's information is separate. Your child's profile only shows their accounts, and your profile only shows yours.

### How do I add a new child profile?

To set up a child's account, go to Accounts and tap Add account, then select the option to create a child's account. You'll need to provide their details and verify your guardianship.
