# Family sharing ## What is family sharing? Family sharing puts your partner and your children on one Fynbos subscription, with a single members list showing everyone you manage or share with. - **One subscription**: You pay one bill for the whole family - **Age-based pricing**: Under-18s are free with your subscription, and under-30s pay half price - **You control access**: Choose which of your children's accounts your partner can see and act on, and change it any time Family sharing lives in *Settings* under **Family**. Your own accounts are never shared — only children's profiles you choose to share. ## Setting up your family If you have no children and no partner yet, the *Family* page introduces family sharing and offers a single setup entry point. 1. Navigate to **Settings** 2. Tap **Family** 3. Tap **Set up your family** 4. Choose **My partner** to send a partner invite, or **My child** to create a child profile If you already have child accounts, Fynbos shows a short welcome explaining what family sharing means for you. Tap **Continue** to go straight to your members list. ## Your members list Once you have a partner or a child, the *Family* page becomes a members list. Each row tells you the person's relationship to you: | Row | What it means | | --- | --- | | **Partner** | The other adult in your family | | **Invite pending** | An invite you've sent that hasn't been accepted yet | | **Child** | A child profile you created | | **Shared by [name]** | A child your partner created and shared with you | | **Shared with [name]** | Your child, currently shared with your partner | Tap **Add child account** at the bottom of the list to create another child profile. ## Sharing a child with your partner Sharing is off by default. Nothing is shared with your partner until you turn it on, including children you add later. 1. Navigate to **Settings**, then **Family** 2. Find the child you want to share in the members list 3. Tap the switch on the right of their row The row description changes to **Shared with [partner name]**. Turn the switch off again to stop sharing. > **Note**: You can only share children you created. A child your partner shared with you appears as **Shared by [their name]** and has no switch — that sharing is theirs to control. ## What your partner can do Sharing a child gives your partner enough access to help, but not enough to take money out. You keep full control as the child's parent. | Action | Your partner | You | | --- | --- | --- | | View balances and transactions | Yes | Yes | | Transfer money into their accounts | Yes | Yes | | Change the account or its strategy | No | Yes | | Withdraw to a bank account | No | Yes | | Close the account | No | Yes | New accounts you open for a shared child inherit the same access automatically, so you don't need to re-share after adding an account. > **Important**: Retirement Annuity beneficiaries are always owner-only. Even a partner or parent with full access cannot nominate or change them. ## Unlinking your partner Unlinking ends the family link between two adults. It takes effect immediately. 1. Navigate to **Settings**, then **Family** 2. Tap your partner's row in the members list 3. Read the summary of what unlinking will do 4. Tap **Unlink** **What unlinking does**: - Removes all sharing between the two of you, in both directions - Ends subscription sponsorship on the day you unlink — whoever was being sponsored loses Protea access that day - Leaves every account and balance untouched You can invite each other again later. See Inviting your partner for how sponsorship works.
## Frequesntly asked questions
### How many adults can be in a family?
Two. You and one partner. There is no limit on the number of children in the family.
### Does my partner see my own accounts?
No. Family sharing only ever covers children's profiles you deliberately share. Your own Cash, savings, and investment accounts stay private, whatever else you share.
### Can my partner withdraw money from a shared account?
No. Sharing a child with your partner lets them view the accounts and transfer money in. Withdrawing, changing an account or its strategy, and closing an account stay with you as the child's parent.
### What happens if I stop sharing a child?
Your partner immediately loses access to that child's accounts. Nothing about the accounts or their balances changes, and you can turn sharing back on at any time.
### Do I need Protea to use family sharing?
Yes. Inviting a partner means covering their Protea seat, so you need an active Protea subscription to send an invite. The person accepting does not need one — that is the point of the invite.
